Examples of work completed by Stone and Tile Restorations
| Work completed on Kitchen floor at Edge Hill, Darras Hall, Newcastle upon Tyne, A Crema Marfil marble floor newly laid in Feb 09. Here in the high traffic areas the shine has pretty much gone and the floor is flat and lifeless. This is due in the main to 2 things. Firstly the area has naturally occurring heavy foot traffic which has been grinding in small particles of grit and sand. |

(STR top tip……vacuum or dust mop regularly!). The second reason for the dull, flat and lifeless look is that the householder, in their efforts to get the shine back was using increasingly stronger household chemicals to ‘clean’ the floor, even bleach was used in the end. Household chemicals are invariably acidic. If you put acidic chemicals onto a calcium carbonate stone like Marble, Travertine, Limestone etc then the surface will become etched within 1-3 minutes depending on the strength of the chemical.
It is important to only use NEUTRAL cleaners on these types of stone. You can buy these from us or from your local tile supplier. (A one litre bottle of Neutral Stone Cleaner will cost £11. This will dilute to mix up to approx 30 buckets full of floor cleaner)
This floor was chemically re-polished. This is one stop down from a full re-grind. You can see in the floor that the highlights have returned and the reflections of the lights are clearly visible again. If the floor was re-ground (this is where the top 0.5mm to 1mm is removed) then not only would you see the bulb reflections, but you would also be able to read the wattage and voltage reading on the bulb itself!” |
